Kile Glover would have turned 13 on March 29, 2014.  Instead of the excited nervousness that comes with executing the final touches of a teen-themed birthday celebration, there was the determined movement of volunteers on a cool day.  The sea of neon yellow shirts worn by participants of the 2nd annual Kile’s World 5K Run/Walk Spring Festival gave no hint of the heavy rain that fell earlier that morning.  Instead of picking up a birthday cake or balloons, Kile’s  mom, Tameka Raymond, effortlessly moved through the staging area, as she prepared for the start of the one year anniversary celebration for the foundation formed in her late son’s honor.

Famously known as the ex-wife of eight time Grammy Award winning R&B artist, Usher, when asked how she would describe the day of the 5K Run/Walk Spring Festival for Kile’s World Foundation, Tameka’s face softens and she simply replies “beautiful”.  It was hard not to be moved.  Clearly channeling the beautiful essence of her belated son, with lit eyes, Tameka says that it is her hope that the foundation eventually opens a magnet school with an emphasis on music and the arts. A mother’s un-ending love for her child could be seen in the carefully coordinated flow of events which included the walk/run, face painting, complimentary food, arts & craft, and more.  Over 250 runners, supporters and celebrities attended Saturday’s celebration.

Tameka Raymond took time out from taping Atlanta Exes to coordinate the celebration event.  Her cast mates Christina Johnson (ex- wife of Cee-Lo Green), Monyetta Shaw (ex fiance’ of Ne-Yo), and Torrei Hart (ex-wife of Kevin Hart) showed support on this rainy day.  This VH1 spin-off of its hit reality TV show, Hollywood Exes, will premiere in the summer of 2014.

The goal for this year’s event was to increase the number of participants by 100% and providing enough funds to extend the summer program an additional week in the summer of 2014.  Kile’s effervescent spirit and deep love of the performing arts is reflected in the foundation which will offer art-based camps to children aged 10-17 years old, with multiple workshops focused on acting, singing, dance, painting, illustration, music production and digital media.
