2014 VMA’s Recap: Beyoncé Steals the Show
The anticipation of Beyoncé’s 2014 VMA performance had the Twittersphere on high alert, and for good reason. While the VMAs had a few solid moments, namely Sam Smith‘s incredible performance of his hit song, “Stay With Me”, or the high energy opening performance from Ariana Grande, Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, Nicki Minaj’s derriere, and Nicki Minaj’s wardrobe malfunction, the show was a little lackluster, dare I say boring this year. Of course there was J. Lo, Common’s tribute to Michael Brown, and Maroon 5 as well, but the show was missing the ‘umph’ it usually has, that is until around 10:55pm when Queen Bey took the stage as only she can. “MTV, welcome to my world” she said, as she literally performed her latest visual album in 20 minutes. As the recipient of the 2014 VMA Vanguard Award, Mrs. Carter received the evening’s highest honor, in addition to three additional Moonmen not aired.
After her mini-concert, that could have gone for another 20 minutes, she was presented with her award by her husband and daughter Blue Ivy, who was jamming in audience as her mommy performed “Flawless”.
