New artist Jidenna blazes the trail for Janelle Monae’s newly established Wondaland Records with Classic Man. Poised to become the new symbol of cool and dressed to the nines with a style that’s both vintage and fresh, Jidenna sings over 808s with self-confidence and swagger.

The visuals depict a high class social setting, seemingly nestled in between the fantasy and reality of today’s world. While walking with his label mates Roman GianArthur and Deep Cotton through the city, the Boston native who currently lives in Brooklyn, acts as a mediator to two young men in the process of being arrested. He escorts them from the police to what appears to be an enrichment program for youth featuring scientific experiments, chess and self-defense classes.

Vibrant portrayals of an updated version of 40s socialite lifestyle fill the screen, complete with dancing, drinking and debonair attitude. Though the 808s are familiar to the times, Jidenna seems to be coming from a different angle with a different message than we’ve grown accustomed to hearing in recent hip-hop offerings.
