After producing and writing for artists such as Teyana Taylor (who completely stole the show during her VH1 Hip Hop Honors tribute to Lil’ Kim), Zendaya, Dawn Richard, Fantasia and Luke James (who is set to make his acting debut in BET’s upcoming New Edition biopic) and more, two-time Grammy nominated producer/singer-songwriter, and Heed favorite, Drew Scott is back with “Detour” – a prelude to Places I’ve Ever Been Vol 3 (the final installment to his free series). “Detour” was primarily written, recorded and inspired by his recent trips to Trinidad and the British Virgin Islands.
“I had to leave L.A. to get my head right,” says Drew Scott. “I flew to an island where I woke up to a view of yachts, boats and ships resting on the brightest sun on an ocean that stretched as far as the eye could see. I fell in love with music all over again and wanted to capture that feeling in this project.”
The project features 7 brand new records with Drew’s signature writing, vocals and production. He has established his sound, mixing elements of world fusion, trap, R&B, pop, and Hip-hop, creating a body work that is sonically pleasing, lyrical, and on trend, yet it remains unique. The work of other artists that boasts his creative genius is great, but it’s the work that he releases as the ‘artist’ that has always captured my attention. His growth is undeniable and his future seems incredibly promising.
Detour is now available for free download via Soundcloud and on all digital streaming platforms. Check it out!
