When we last heard from singer/songwriter Tay Bell, he was chasing after famed actress Olivia Wilde, and with no shame at all. Later that summer he dropped a melody driven remix to the late Big Pun’s classic track “Still Not A Player.” The record, “Fa’Sure,” was an absolute banger and eventually made its way to the airwaves of NYC’s Hot 97 and Boston’s B87.7 radio stations.
The harmonious vocals and nifty lyrics were in true homage to the legacy of the late emcee, and gave listeners a chance to relish in what was then the essence of true Hip-Hop and R&B. On the track, Bell tells a fun-filled story about living in the excitement of newly founded, real love.
Fast forward to present day, he’s managed to extend himself into the current era of music and has delivered a barrage of remixes to widely popular rap records including “Bad and Boujee” and “My Sh*t.”
In addition, he’s also been amassing an extensive amount of work behind the scenes by way of writing for other artists. Most recently, he landed a placement on the 2016 posthumous album Legends Never Die by the late Queens rapper Chinx.
Currently, Bell is in the process of writing for a number of artists such as Jason Derulo and Christina Aguilera, just to name a few.
Now, the 26-year-old Bronx representative is set to release his latest project, Chivalry Session. Tuesday night he debuted the project via a live performance in front of an intimate crowd at the Harlem restaurant Mist. The event was the first of a series of listening parties where he intends to offer just a sneak preview of some of the songs off the new album.
“Chivalry Session is a project that for me brings back the originality and true nature of what R&B music is,” he explains. “I wanted to create a project that put Love at the forefront. I wanted to create emotion and at the same time bring back a groove that I feel is being overshadowed or overlooked.”
Not wanting to rush his creativity, Bell spent nearly two years working on the project.
“This is something I really took my time with. Part one of the project was put together throughout the course of about a year and a half. I recorded about 60+ records with this goal and concept in mind.”
“It’s definitely a solid body of work, and remember it’s only part 1. I wanted to create music on another frequency that allowed you to love, smile, enjoy one another, reminisce on good times and just overall give off a positive vibe, like R&B has always done. It has always created Balance for me.”
