New Poetry: Words Transform

Words Transform is a literary collection of words like no other. It’s an inspiring, creative yet realistic view into the life of author Nicole Sallis.

Iowa native Nicole Sallis has worked as a designer in the Big Apple’s over-populated fashion industry for the past seven years. Having designed for various brands (and wardrobe styling for a number of recording artists), Sallis has also styled work for print and television, from XXL Magazine to MTV’s Making the Band. However, even as she holds her own in a highly coveted position, Sallis has managed to make a name for herself in another artistic industry — poetry. She has been sought out to perform poetry for NBA great Allan Houston and for a promotional campaign for Apple Bottoms. When asked to describe the roles that each of the two artistic forms play in her life, Sallis says, “If fashion is my lover, then poetry would be my therapist.”

As Sallis pulled together the most relevant short stories that she documented about her life, tying them to powerful poetic proses, she discovered her debut’s title, Words Transform. Each chapter has a different subject matter; however, I must say the entire book works together to tell a riveting story of discovering purpose, love, passion, fear, failure and faith.

Inside the pages of Words Transform, Sallis speaks explicitly about her personal struggles; from being in an abusive relationship to her personal experiences in the world of fashion and entertainment, from sexual promiscuity to building a personal relationship with God. Throughout the book, she details how poetry is not just an emotional and creative outlet, but how it was a major contributor to overcoming her darkest hours. Sallis feels blessed that she was able to overcome these obstacles, and believes that she now has the wherewithal to move forward in a positive way.

However, Sallis’ definition of moving forward isn’t just about bettering herself; she feels an overall need to help better everyone else.  When inquiring about the overall motivations for the book, Sallis explains, “It’s certainly not a tell-all. It doesn’t bash anyone, it just talks about my personal experiences…I want the next person to believe that they can accomplish whatever they want, but in the right way…I also want my readers to know, you can overcome any and every obstacle with the help of God.”

Nicole’s new book “Words Transform” will be released on Tuesday, September, 27, 2011 through Nicole Lyricc LLC. It can be purchased online here:
