East mingles—and shines—with West at the ESOSA fall preview. On February 10, Project Runway finalist, Emilio Sosa, made his Fashion week debut at the Alvin Ailey American Dance studios with “Urban Geisha.”
The collection mixes Japanese calligraphy with urban graffiti and pairs brilliant colors with textured layers. The results of this pairing are bold, wearable looks that will certainly become a must-have for any woman looking to vamp-up a muted or black color palette for fall.
Emilio has said that the collection was inspired by his work on the Broadway adaptation of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Arthur Golden’s novel Memoir of a Geisha. A renowned costume designer and Bronx native, Emilio has designed for some of the best in the theater and dance world. He was the runner-up for the seventh season of Lifetime’s Project Runway. In an exit interview for the show’s season finale, he shared that he “always wanted to make clothing that people on the subway will be wearing.” Straphangers everywhere would approve.
