343 Industries is doing an excellent job at increasing gamer’s affinity for Halo 4 news. In a recent blog, the developers revealed details of the content that will be provided in the Limited Edition version of Halo 4. As a result, we get an interesting chunk of information about the planned multiplayer experience as ‘specializations’ and ‘customizations’ are mentioned as bonus content. Apparently, E3 will be the forum where this feature will be expanded upon. 

IGN.com reports that a Special Ops mode will have story based episodic adventures that will be free releases on a weekly basis over Xbox Live. These missions will be co-op enabled and seem to be an interesting way for 343 to expand on the story or simply keep our collective noses open wide for quite some time after the game’s release on Nov. 6th, 2012.

Ok. Let’s see. There’s The Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, Ultimate Comics Avengers, Young Avengers, Dark Avengers, and so many more. While all of these titles won’t be on sale, some of them may be each Monday for $.99 on a digital comic app called Comixology. Featured on the Kindle Fire as the default digital comic app, Comixology is a fantastic way to keep track of every ‘BAMF’, ‘BOOM’, ‘SNIKT’, and ‘POW’ your heart desires!

Featuring all of the major publishers and a number of the indie ones as well, you can read comics and graphic novels alike in all of their digital glory on your iPad, iPhone, Android device, PC, or Kindle Fire.

That’s right Heeders. The original bullet-time, Max Payne 3,  is set to slow-mo all over your favorite console tomorrow. In anticipation, here’s a bit about some of the additional modes you’ll find aside from the lead-filled story mode.

SCORE ATTACK

Once you get Max safely to the next chapter within the story, you can return to it and attmept to post the highest score possible. For each bullet that meets its mark, points are awarded. From there, I’m certain there will be all kinds of challenges and witty remarks posted within the new Social Club. It sounds as if Rockstar plans to do quite a bit more with the multiplayer modes of both Max Payne 3 and the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V.

NEW YORK MINUTE

A fan favorite mode from the first two sequels, you’ll get a minute to rack up as many toe tags as possible. Each one you score grants you a bit more time.

The exciting demo allows you to hop in, create a character, and take on the Chimera and the Griffon. This shows off the amazing monsters and boss style battles that can take place. But where are the Dragons in Dragon’s Dogma you ask? Well, Capcom at the very least is assuring your Dragon killing will be on an epic scale with a mode called the Ur-Dragon Event Mode.

Though the released details on this new mode are a bit lite, apparently this pits you, your ‘Pawns’, and other parties from around the world online in a collective battle against this massive and powerful Ur-Dragon. A guaranteed challenge, there is an promise that the battle will require multiple encounters and plenty of online help to overcome. Then, when the beastie falls, your name goes into a leaderboard-esque Hall of Fame along with your play time for your friends to drool and envy over. Of course, they’ll probably beat you eventually, but that’s the nature of such bragging. That’s not all though. Score the final blow and you receive the maximum amount of in game rewards while all that assisted in the battle receive other rare and uncommon items to be used in future scuffles.

Ah loot. Gotta love it!

Dragon’s Dogma drops later on this month on May 22nd so be sure to sharpen that Dragonslayer sword!

A 4GB console with Kinect for just $99 seems pretty choice at first, when you consider the $300 retail price tag. But we, of course, see the bundle for less than retail fairly consistently. In fact, we’ve seen the Xbox with Kinect bundle for as low as $200, on Black Friday. (We saw it with a $100 credit for $300 in December as well.) More recently however, we saw the bundle reach prices between $250 to $256 (from Amazon, Toys “R” Us via eBay, Fry’s Electronics, and Microsoft Store) four times over the past two months. (Currently, the lowest total price we could find, with reasonable stock left, is $284.99 at Amazon, a low by $5.) Based on these numbers, let’s say then that a shopper with a customized deal alert could, in the next two months, snag the console bundle for $250.

 What then would you pay for an Xbox LIVE Gold membership if you go it alone? The lowest price we’ve seen for a 12-month membership is $30, but we routinely see deals between $35 and $40. These memberships don’t activate upon purchase either, so you could theoretically buy two at once, or even wait all year for another stellar deal (perhaps around Black Friday) to purchase before your current year is up.

 So our careful deal-hunting Xboxer could get the same package — the console, Kinect sensor, and 24 months of Xbox LIVE Gold service — for approximately $330. If you went with Microsoft’s new contract-based plan, you will pay $458.76 after two years. That’s a full $128.76 more than our cobbled deal bundle

That’s right people. Microsoft is trying to pull a fast one on you. Now granted you will be paying more in the end for the whole bundle, it is a great way to get all of this lovely hardware into your home for a decent price. The original price for the bundle is a pretty big pill to swallow. Mind you, Xbox still hasn’t really detailed what the early contract termination fee would be either.

Grammy Award winning duo, Mary Mary releases their seventh album “Go Get It” with music heard on their hit WEtv reality series “Mary Mary”. Although the Mary’s latest offering is essentially a compilation of their biggest hits over the last twelve years, it does contain their latest hit “Go Get It”! Initially, I was disappointed as I was expecting something fresh, but I think it is smart for the Mary’s to continue branding themselves and the new reality show; besides, they’ve not disappointed musically over the past decade, so it was a bit nostalgic jamming to hits such as  “Shackles” and “Good to Me” featuring Destiny’s Child! On Thursday, May 3rd, Soul Lounge USA and IM3 Media welcomed Grammy Award winner & member of Maroon 5, PJ Morton to Philadelphia during his Following My First Mind tour! The tour, which ended this past Sunday, promoted his newly released Following My First Mind project and featured guests such as Heed Magazine alum Dawn Richard and B. Reith. Although the show started nearly 2 hours late, PJ Morton delivered and gave Philly an incredible show. With opening performances by Thomas “TC” Clay, a Christian artist from Delaware, and up and coming artist Aaron Camper, a noted background vocalist whose vocal chops can be heard behind Chris Brown & Jill Scott, this diverse line-up definitely made up for the show’s lateness.

Newly signed to Lil’ Wayne’s musically imperial Young Money, PJ Morton remains true to the sound that we’ve grown accustomed to appreciating. He opened the show with “Never Get Over You”, off of Following My First Mind. Although the incomparable Jazmine Sullivan, who we haven’t seen or heard in a while, was in the building, PJ opted out of performing “Built for Love”. He did, however, go into several fan favorites off of his Walk Alone album, including a Tweet-less “Love You More” and “Mountains and Molehills”. After performing “Heavy” sans Adam Levine, but with his background vocalist/percussionist Josiah “JoJo” Martin, he took the crowd back to his first album, Emotions, with a very moving and soulful performance of “Good Days, Bad Days”. PJ closed the show with the very energetic “How It Used to Be/How We Were”; but obliged the very participatory crowd with “I Need You” and “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” during the encore performance!

This could really make for a great weekend for comics in general. With the new Avengers movie dropping, comic and superhero fans all over plan to partake in the blockbuster-y-ness of the film. Then, when they are done, they can visit their local comic store and read up on the new and fresh story lines that so many talented and passionate artists and writers have delivered in the past as well as currently!

Between The Walking Dead, Smallville,  and the DC Nation animated shows on Cartoon Network, superheroes are also making a push on TV as well as the big screen. On a personal note, I’m in the midst of reading through The Walking Dead comics and it is definitely better than the show (if you can believe that)!

It’s probably a good idea to check in on the digital stores for the different comic book publishers as well to see what sales they may have tomorrow too.

 The linked store locator on the FCBD site gets you to the nearest participating store. There you may find that the store has a cosplay contest or even a creator/writer/artist signing!

Either way you look at it, reading is fundamental! An enjoyable way to promote it for us nerds is via comics so go and support your local comic store.
